French Earth Day Time-Saving Resources (including a free mini-book)
Teaching about the Earth and the importance of taking care of our planet is crucial. Our students will be the ones shaping our future!
Let me save you some time if you’re teaching about Earth Day this month. Check out the following resources:
1. French Earth Day Videos
This first video is great as its lyrics use lots of words related to the topic. I love this part:
“La terre n’est pas une poubelle.
Il y a un secret pour qu’elle soit belle :
Ne rien jeter par terre et trier ses déchets.
Petits et grands, nous sommes tous concernés !”

“Clip! Clap! Font les gottes d’eau dans le lavabo!” kids will be singing this for days! The following video is from the same series as the one above. In fact, there are more videos in the series, but I’ve selected these two to display here.
Teach your students to save water with this video – they’ll never see the faucet the same way after that!

2. French Earth Day Sentence Builders, a.k.a. Phrases Mêlées, a.k.a. Scrambled Sentences
As students learn how to organize words into coherent sentences, they need lots of examples and opportunities to really build the structures up. Sentence builders are cut-apart sentences that students need to put back together in the right way. This set of French Earth Day Sentence Builders (scrambled sentences) is double-duty because all the sentences are questions, which is always a harder structure for kids to master. After putting the questions back together, students need to answer them.
3. French Earth Day Mini-Presentation SlideShare: a discussion prompt
Getting students to actually speak French is the goal of this mini-presentation. Go slide by slide eliciting the use of new vocabulary.
Prompt kids to answer questions at every slide, e.g. “Comment s’appelle la planète verte et bleue?”, “Pourquoi est-ce qu’on souffre si la Terre souffre?”, “Qu’est-ce qu’on peut faire pour la protéger?”.

4. French Earth Day Color by Word No-Prep Printable Worksheets and Mini-Book
Take advantage of Earth Day discussions to sneak in some sight word practice. The printables in the French Earth Day Color & Read No-Prep Worksheets will have students working with “les mots usuels” AND new vocabulary related to Earth Day. They’re “no-prep” because all you have to do is make copies and you’re good to go!
5. French Earth Day FREE Mini-Book
This French Earth Day mini-book is a simple, but effective activity that will keep your students engaged. They’ll color fun illustrations, work on their writing skills by answering two questions, and practice vocabulary by completing the word search.
